What geosynthetics are used in landfill liner systems?+

Depending on the approved design, landfill systems may use geomembranes as barriers, geotextiles for filtration and protection, geocomposite drainage layers for liquid or gas flow, and geogrids or high-strength geotextiles for reinforcement. Each material must be selected as part of the complete engineered system.

How does a geocomposite support leachate drainage?+

A drainage geocomposite combines a flow-transmitting core with one or more geotextile filter layers. It can convey leachate toward collection pipes and sumps while limiting the migration of adjacent soil fines, subject to project-specific flow and loading checks.

What is the role of geotextile in a landfill liner?+

A geotextile may provide filtration, separation or cushioning protection. Protective nonwoven geotextile layers are commonly considered around geomembranes where the design must reduce puncture risk from the subgrade or overlying drainage material.

How are geosynthetics used in landfill capping?+

A final cover may coordinate a barrier layer, drainage layer, reinforcement, cover soil and erosion protection. Geosynthetics help manage infiltration, gas, settlement, interface stability and surface runoff when specified as an integrated cap system.
